Southern Font Family
In the late 1970s, the type design industry was dominated by the Swiss and German type foundries. The American foundries were beginning to lose ground, and the script faces designed by many American type designers were being supplanted by the Germanic Fraktur.
In September 1979, the International Typeface Corporation (ITC) invited a number of these type designers to create typefaces for the digital era. The result was the ITC Modern typeface family, which was first introduced in 1981, and included a wide range of typefaces and variants.
