In 1989, Hiroshi Yamauchi wanted his son-in-law Minoru Arakawa’s business partner Gunpei Yokoi from what would become known as Game Freak Company Ltd., who had just finished developing a toy robot called VL2 which could speak five languages including English; but he declined this proposal due to not wanting anything more than being an engineer.
